I hope you didn't buy the amp new, as you will void the warranty if you open it.
How sure are you about the ground? Do you ave a voltmeter? I found that it was very difficult to ground my amp as there are no really good spots in the back of the xj. I ended up sanding and modifying the rear seat bracket to ensure that the ground was good. It seemed like everytime I would go over a bump my sub would go out. Haha

Try checking the remote wire as well. Is the wiring kit new as well? If not make sure none of the wires are cracked.

ya i just bought the amp off craigslist and the amp kit from walmart, i sanded down my ground area im pretty sure it isnt my ground, my girlfriends step dad is an electrical engineer, ima take it to him and see if he can do anything about it, but if i can fix it myself i would love that, any more opinions?

As stated have you ever seen it work? Is it new or used?
I've only found two places for a proper ground on a higher power system in an xj.
1* the seatbelt bolt
or
2* Drill a hole in the floor and put a bolt through.

from my experiance with systems, the amp most likly is shot, theres something inside thats messed up, i run a single rockford fosgate on a 1000watt amp at 2 ohm's and i can throw my amp into protection if i run it too long or too hard , but at the same time ive also blew apart the magnet on a diamond d3 12inch sub with this amp, running at 2 ohms, and ive had a amp do that exact problem brand new out of the box, lol, i just picked up a set of subs and amp, just for subs, pm me if you want to buy a 1500watt amp, fairly cheap, i have no need ofr it, and yes it does work

if you have a dual voice coil sub or subs, you can bridge the sub (not to be confused with bridging the amp) and you have grate quality and a less likelihood of your amp overheating.
