Keyless IR removal
Morning.
Im removing the headliner and lining the interior of my 97. Above the rearview mirror, there is a plastic bulge (hehe) with a circuit board inside. I believe this is the IR sensor for my keyless entry, which I don't have the fob for and have no interest in using. Please correct me right here if I'm thinking of the wrong thing and thats not an IR sensor. My question is can I cut and cap those wires without affecting the function of the truck? Or if I cut the wires will I suddenly not be able to start, or something like that? Thanks all.

That's a nice feature to have and all you need is a new fob and have it programmed. I had to do that with mine when I bought it didn't even know it had it till I got a build sheet from Jeep and it told me.
I think that control pod also controls the headlights/delay feature and turn-on. If it were mine I would not cut/remove any wires no knowing what they control for sure, I don't but a selling feature for sure on any car.

In the dome light is the receiver for the keyless entry. I had a similar issue where mine was fried. It resulted in my panic alarm going off while driving. I simply unplugged the wire socket from the green computer chip. It took away my keyless entry but I don't care. If you want a fix (other than the stealership) go to a junkyard and locate a 97-01 with Keyless entry. Harvest the receiver chip ANDD the matching keyless fob. To answer your question, you can disconnect that without damaging any other electronics.
