I usually stay at 14/15, but with a 10.5" tire I needed the footprint to float on the snow as much as possible. It was soft, and deep, and I wasn't geared then. I had no power haha, it was bad.

I've gotten close to the point i could hear air leaking out but never actually popped a bead. Bead locks will come with new axles, 1-2 psi all day at that point.

You could barely tell my 33x10.5 were aired down to 8. But again it was just deep snow.

So is the general consensus MTR's are good for a dd? Wear? Noise? I was looking at Duratracs as well. Originally looking at STT Pro's but would like opinions on these three of you have them.

I'm almost positive I'm just going to get a 33x12.5 and find a cheap set of 35's and do what Fred said; cheap rims to match and sipe them. But for now with 90% dd duties..

i had 31 duratracs and they were great for a daily, but they were slacking offroad, but maybe the size was the issue there too. I got my mtrs used with some wear issues, but since I've balanced them they haven't gotten worse. They're pretty quiet on road and I love them off road.

I DD with my MTRs and are a bit noisy to me with the windows down, but I have my music up way louder haha. I have about 3k miles and barely any wear. I've yet to experience them off road, but they're good in moderate snow (haven't had anything more than 3" this winter). But they kinda suck on light stuff and ice, and spin easily in fresh rain, but I have a heavy foot too.

Went in to compare the tires today. The 33 unmounted is prob a 1/2" taller than my bfg 33. The 35 looked like it would fit with minimal rubbing with stock flares. I could just run it and deal with trimming when it warms. Or get the 33 and find a cheap set for wheeling. Choices..

How are the Duratracs for double duty; wheeling/dd? They only come in a 33 though.

I'm worried about road noise and balancing issues with the MTR's. While around town I could care less. On the 9hr one way trips to ME it could get annoying real quick.

No experience with any of those tires but plenty with heavy MT tires for years on 4x4 Trucks and now the XJ. Hell I'm a bit deaf but I deal with tire noise the same way as an old man as I did when younger......CRANK UP the Pink Floyd and enjoy the trip


BTW if they have a balance issue its the dealers problem he has to make them right when he mounts them up, make sure you watch!

BUT, with the price of 33x12.5 and 35x12.5 the same, say in a Cooper STT flavor, would I be crazy not to get the 35's now? I am pretty sure I can fit them for DD, just won't be able to flecks.

I have searched multiple threads and forums, gathering peoples opinion, so I've def searched. This is a DD, and will see a fair amount of offroad use.
As close as I can figure the difference in torque to the axle is about 7.2% so unless you are doing something like rocks you should be good.

That's exactly what I have but run 12 front & 10 rear on the rocks. They grip great even when wet/muddy. They don't like tree roots. It's like driving on ice.

KM2s aren't bad. I prefer Kevlars due to their sidewalls.
