Default Jeep build help?

I have a 1997 jeep cherokee classic that just sits in my drive way right now and I was wondering, would it be possible to lower it and possibly drag race it? I know many of you will shame me for wanting to do this to a jeep but I think it would look pretty sweet. So what are some suggestions to lower this jeep a couple inches so I could drag race with it?

Sounds awesome! There are a couple of race Jeep builds out there if you search for them, stock tj coils should provide about 1 inch of lowering in the front, maybe a little more. Pretty much the only way to squeeze enough enough power to competitively race out of a 4.0 is either stroked or forced induction so you might consider that.

Well I don't think I'm going to keep the stock engine in the jeep cause of the amount of miles on it, so that brings up my next question. Is there a way to see how much clearance I'll have between the engine and the axle without changing front end parts?

.......Measuring tape?
Just set it up on jack stands and pull the coils out, lift the axle with a jack until it stops then measure.
If it's 2wd with the solid tube front axle, you should have some decent clearance to work with.
