After this last weekend of getting small cuts in the sidewalls of the rear tires this weekend I am at a turning point. Discount tire isn't really working with me to replace them with the warranty so new tires here I come. My current mt/r with kevlar are 315/75r16. I am looking into the irok nd or any other tire excluding the km2 with ok road manners/wear (over 35k life), strong side wall and good in mud, snow, and mainly rocks.

Ive probably put 18-19k on my STT's and they are probably a hair over 50% tread life left. So far theyve been great for me and one of the quiter tires I've owned.

 

I haven't used the Irok ND, but I've used the Irok Radial. They were some of the best tires I've had offroad. You're gonna be lucky to get the mileage you want out of them though. My 39.5x13.5's lasted about 35k miles, but most of my friends were only getting 20-30k out of theirs. Bias Iroks wore out even faster.

Why so much hate for the KM2? I like my KM2s on my Jeep, they're doing good enough. I'd take KM2s over MTRs any day.

 

Had a set and wasn't a fan. Lugs came apart and balancing became impossible. The mt/rs weren't bad but the sidewall is thin and not so great in mud. I'm leaning towards the irok nds in the 315/75 r 16 flavor. Just looking for first hand, not finding a lot of info on the net. Talked to someone at interco and they said I would get about 35 - 40 out of them.

 

I've heard good things about the pitbull tires. They have them in smaller radial tires too.

 

Went out with a group last weekend and both tire failures came from km2 equipped vehicles. One completely lost the bead and the other punctured the sidewall. MT/R has my vote.

 

rockers look awesome if they ran more true to their size I would've tried them. but they measure more like an irok does

yeah the KM2's would be shweet if you're just in the rocks. but as soon as I got into mud or anything slippery my bfg's became useless. blew a km1 out on a tree root. lame. but stuck like glue to dry rocks. just picked up a set of kevlars myself.

 

Mtr's over kmcraps any day of the week month year life

Don't even put them on your radar lol especially if you crawl the rocks

 

The Kevlars will be my next tire no doubt. Both of those TJ owners weren't exactly the most pleased, although the guy that lost the bead destroyed the wheel since he was following an ultra-4 rig with raceline beadlocks. The other just happened on a rocky trail. Southern AZ is mostly all rock and some sand.

Discount tire has been pretty good here for tire warranty tho. Another XJ in the group has paid for 2 tires in the last 4 years.. as long as there is tread on the face of the tire they still warranty it. Definitely worth the 32.50 per tire.

 

Had issues in the passed with discount tire not warranting the tires. Last weekend I had both rear tires get sidewall cuts in my 315/75r16 my/rs with kevlar. Neither cut took the tire down but there are dependent enough to switch out. I am currently looking at the rockers by pitbull also. I need something with a bit more sidewall and the radial rocker may fit that bill...just at a bit of a high price. The irok nd looked like like a good option, but for a small amount more I could have the rocker. Hmm.....

 

Don't discount the MTZ's - they are very tough, hold a bead at 10psi on 10" rims and wear very well.

They are a good tread and carcass for East Coast wheeling - mud, woods, and rock.

 

I'd go rockers! That's what I'll be running next. Had the irok radial and they are awesome in pretty much any scenario however the sidewall on the radials suck! I've lost 1 and my wheeling buddy has lost 3! Bias are great and don't have the weak sidewalls but if your driving on the street bias can be annoying and nearly impossible to balance.... I don't mind driving bias on the street but most hate it.

For ultimate strength in a radial I think rocker would be the way to go

 

Love my cooper stt on my 2nd set now with little over 5k on this set 1st set lasted almost 55k

 

Stts are known for a weak sidewall. Not saying it's a crap tire, I'm just looking for piece of mind when I'm driving through areas I can't see the rocks. I don't want to have to worry about my sidewalls dying. Hence the pitbulls. I may be getting me a set if I can find a vendor with a good price

 

Love my Kevlar's. By far the best honest all around off road tire.
