Default Improving fuel mileage...

Alright I am running a 3" budget lift, 235/75r15 tires, 2.5" exhaust from manifold back with highflow cat. This is my DD and I want better fuel mileage, what can I do to improve it? Thank you in advance for all your help guys.

Drive like an old lady lol. Do a tune up. Make sure your fuel injectors are clean, if you get larger tires, make sure you re-gear your axles. Remember your XJ is never going to get 'good' milage.

I think I get "good" fuel mileage. I have a 6.5" lift on 33s and I just drove from Missouri to Ohio with 400 lbs or more in my jeep and I got 16.8 mpg the whole way. I think that's pretty good for a box filled with all of my army and personal junk lol

Keep it stock if you want good mileage, and drive it easy. XJs are as aerodynamic as a brick, they aren't going to do great on gas. Best I ever saw was 20 MPG, stock except for the 235/75R15 mud tires, with the 2.5 and 5 speed. Now that I've got a 3" lift, 35's, heavy winch bumper, lockers, etc, I get considerably lower mileage. Last tank I checked was 13 MPG, all highway, in the same XJ that was getting 20 stock.

I have a 3 in lift with 31s mud tires and I drive all city and get about 12mpg or 13 mpg. I have done a cat back borla exhaust, upgraded fuel injectors, aFe CAI, and a tune up with new cap, rotor, wires, spark plugs. I honestly don't know if any of these did much for mpg although they did help with hp. Make sure you are easy on the accelerator and don't run a lift with mud tires.

What you're asking is like saying "I'm married, but I want to bang young college girls without losing half my stuff in a messy divorce, what can I do?".

I got decent mileage when mine was stock. Added bumpers, roof rack, 4.5" lift kit, 31's, some recovery tools and such in the back, and now I'm sitting around 12mpg. I'm lucky to get around 190miles to a tank around town. Highways a little better but I'm around 12mpg now compared to before I was around 19mpg.

Gearing helps too.

When i went to a bigger tire I re geared it an went from 13 mpg average with 31s, to 19 mpg (highway) on 35s. I couldnt believe it.

Cruiser that reminds me of the late 70s novas had a stock vacuum gauge in the cluster. The gauge said economy and performance on each side.
