i need to know what my xj came with factory i heard some came with a 40 dana and besides tacking off the cover i have no idea how to find out if mine did it has a hitch witch leads me to believe it came with a towing package but dont know if it was added while the first owner had it and i am on a very tight budget and would like some suggestions on up grades cheap upgrades lol

Dana 30 front. 35 rear. Some had a 44 rear if with a factory tow package.

My '88 has a Dana 30 in front and a non c-clip Dana 35 in th rear.

i have a 87 laredo, and it came with D30 up front, and a D44 in the rear

my 89 came with 30/35

My 89 had the d30/d35 combo. non c-clipped rear. 242 case, renix 4.0, aw4 and 3.55 gears. Hope this helps ya out man.

If you post a picture of your rear diff, we can tell you exactly which one you have. There is also a picture chart somewhere on the site that shows pictures of each of the models.

84-01 xj either have a rear Dana 35, Dana 44 or 8.25. The xj's from 87-89 with the tow package came with the Dana 44. The xj's from 90-01 with tow package came with 8.25. The xj's from 84-01 without tow package came with Dana 35.

What does the diff cover look like on the ford 9"? LMAO JK

The Dana 35 looks like a circle horizontally streched. The 8.25 has a flat bottom and axel shaft tubes are larger then both Dana 44 and Dana 35. The Dana 44 looks like an apple on it's side.

Ford cover looks alot like a middle aged house wifes a$$. Except smells much better!!!! Haha

I have found 2 Dana 44 at the local pick&pull traded 1 if them for my arb Dana 30 locker . Sold the other for 600.00. I'm looking for one to throw in my xj now to replace 8.25, don't ask why cause I will never likely put on tires bigger then 35's. I
