I thought front driveshafts were good up ti 6.5" lift
So I have a 4.5" lift and I took off my front driveshaft to replace a ujoint. At the same time I put on my long arms which I know pushed my axle out a little but now my front driveshaft wont go in noway no how. Its a modified IRO longarm kit but shouldnt I still be able to get the shaft in? I greased it up to make sure it wasnt just stuck but this thing barely wont fit.
I know I can use one of the GC driveshafts but i thought this was weird.

think something is making it hang up but not sure what would cause it. I dont know much about the way the front shafts work besides being able to slide in and out using the slip joint in the middle of the shaft. Is it possible there is dried mud stuck in the slip joint or something like that maybe?

something is holding it up, i'm running 10" lift and still running a stock front DS... though i'm gonna lengthen mine about an inch it should still bolt in. Ive got a few buddies with the same setup and all still have a stock front DS too...

id try some hot water then take an air hose with a sprayer attachment and blast some air in there to try and get what you can outta it. Id spray some pb blast up in it after you get it freed up some or even brake cleaner or starter fluid just to get it a lil extra clean.

so my cherokee front driveshaft (98 sport, np231) would deffinately fit in the rear of a RE3.5 lift?! I'm hearing of people with 4-5.5 inch lifts going out and having to get zj ds for the rear cause the stock front ds won't extend much more?!

If you pull hard enough the driveshaft can actually separate. With the taller lift you probably need the shaft to move places it hasnt in over a decade. Probably some rust and crud in there like said. Sometimes they can be REAL stuck. Will probably require some penetrating oil and hammer action.

Some times ive noticed on large trucks if you hammer on them it will loosen up the splines on the shaft which can cause the spline to burr and bind in the slip if thay helps... idk

I scrapped my stock shaft from 2000. It wouldn't compress and I used some extreme measures on it. Save your u-joints but the complete shafts have been running me around $30 from the junk yard.
