Easiest way by far is to have a donor vehicle sitting in your yard!

hello everyone. so yea, first id like to know specifically what type/model 4wd tranny i need? year to what year and what ALL models will work example: will a grand cherokee 4wd tranny will work and if so what years and what model will work? same goes for the transfer case?? i just wanna know what to look for at junkyard or wherever i look. my jeep i now just picked up is a 1997 cherokee xj 4 door automatic 4.0L inline 6. ill be ordering the rough country 4.5" short arm lift soon along with the SYE and the driveshaft. the shaft they recommend, is that the front driveshaft? so if it is then i only need the rear donor driveshaft from a 4wd model right?? by the way, the transfer case I'm getting if it works y'all think is a np231 from a 88 xj along with a dana 30 front axle and will that work from the 88? he also has the tranny from the 88 and will that work??? so far thats all i can think of right now. thanks for all y'alls help. its greatly appreciated. and yes i am all new to the jeep scene....lol

If the sye kit uses a front driveshaft, then you need 2 front driveshafts, one to use on the front (duh) and one to use on the rear

stay away from the 88 stuff since the only thing that will work is the d30 but isnt all that great, come with vacuum disconnect built into the axle. You want an AW4 auto trans from 96-01 cherokee, a np231 tcase from 91-01 jeeps will work,
