I have a RHD 2000 XJ, the mechanical fan bearing and bracket in this cannot be replaced no longer manufactured. However there is a work around using another bearing from a 97, this works but does not last long. Tired of fighting this. Does anyone know where I can get a new mechanical fan bracket with the bearings? If not what have you done to take out that system and just put in an electric fan to replace it?

Firstly, I have tried a dual stock aux fan on my standard american lhd 2001...will not stay as cool as aux fan and stock mechanical. I am unfamiliar with the rhd rig. somewhere in this forum is the part number to replace the bearings in the lhd fan hub..they are available...don"t know if its the same bearing in the rhd assy. 2ndly if you did remove the fan hub assy...you would have to find some way to re-route the drive belt around what used to be the fan hub pulley. I have several hundred K on my fan hub bearings...never went bad .. haw many of yours have you burned out?

10 years ago forums were full of posts about junking the mech fan & fitting a 2nd electric one; I got 1/2-way with the conversion, i.e removed the mech fan but never got round to fitting the 2nd leccie one, never had any issues. It's fairly simple, you remove the fan, replace it's mounting studs with button head bolts, thus retaining the pulley & mount a 2nd OEM fan alongside the original.
At least it was up to '99 but these references to bearings & brackets make me wonder if it all changed in 2000.

If he keeps the pulley, thats where he has the issue with the bearing..if he keeps pulley, then he keeps fan...its the pulley and bearing he wants to do away with...i think

Yes but like i may have stated...i tried running 2 stock aux fans instead of mech fan and aux, and i couldn't keep below 220 in the heat and traffic

Funny, because my 1st XJ was fine with just the electric fan (although it might've cut in more frequently - I can't remember) & my present one doesn't have a shroud for the mech which (if I'm to believe 1/2 of what I read) means it's virtually useless. Then again I don't have to cope with NYC traffic on a hot Summer's day

Curiously, a major difference between LHD & RHD XJ's is the fans (& rad.) which, in simplest terms, is they are transposed with all that entails (which might explain why the alternator's mounted differently - or that might just be another twist). I must confess to still being puzzled by all these references to brackets & bearings, because I always thought the fan was mounted to the WP pulley. (that's on a RHD remember)
google "gojeep ******" he shows various fan deletes and upgrades
There is a Ford bearing that replaces the extinct Jeep one, but you have to (accurately) cut the front and rear shafts..after measuring everything up first
Its easy to wreck the bearing pushing it back into its housing/bracket, which can be damaged or ruined if the bearing failed
All-in-all, not a good item to have fail on ya in the middle of nowhere
did I say it will grenade your engine bay
none of this happened to me, but I was lucky
