Default Hubcentric rings for soft 8’s to mount to XJ

So today I finally brought my Cherokee to the wheel alignment shop after 2 1/2 years of rebuilding almost the entire thing to put on my new 33” tires

Soft 8 hub bore=83mm

83mm to 71.5mm hubcentric rings

Jeep cherokee center bore for 5x4.5 = 71.5mm

Tires I have on now

285/75/16R Cooper Discoveries Sst tires

New soft 8’s with 83mm bore hub

Guy mount the tires and then comes back out and tells me that the aftermarket rims (soft 8’s) won’t mount to the jeeps center bore and that is need a hubcentric ring for the wheels to mount.

I did some research and found out that the soft eights bore hub holes are 83mm and that the all jeeps center bore for 5x4.5 stuff is 71.5mm

I ordered these and wanted to run it past you guys if this is the right part so the jeeps center bore can adapt to the new soft 8’s hub bore holes.

here is the link for the 83 mm to 71.5 mm hubcentric rings:

83mm to 71.5mm hubcentric rings

Thanks! -D

Never even considered this an issue, been running my 15" soft 8's without a spacer for while now and my d windows before that.

You either have hub centric or lug centric wheels - to say you need to do both isn't necessary at all.

A tapered seating surface on your lugnuts and wheels is the dead give-away here.

The other thing I would add here is the wheel and tire combo should be balanced in the same manner it's going on the vehicle. A lug centric wheel should be balanced via the lug holes and not the center bore - low cost steel wheels dont have a very true center bore and can have balance issues or excessive weights. Tire shops will comonly blame the "offroad style tire" for the excessive amount of weight but its really a side effect of most shops defaulting to a center bore balance in favor of time efficiency.

I agree. The lug nuts are tapered, so they center the wheels as you tighten the lug nuts. I personally don't care for trying to center on hubs because as things rus, particularly in the rust belt from salt you can have a situation where you cannot get the wheel off to change a flat.

Don't need hub centric rings, waste of money.

If they're not prepared to swap the wheels, pay for fitting the tyres, take the new wheels home & fit them yourself - & try to get a refund for the rings.
