Default How Do I drill a hole?

I need a drill a small hole in a a bolt so I can put a Cotter Pin through it. And I just cant keep my drill bit on the bolt, are there any tricks to this?

a drill press would help greatly. or just put the bolt in a vice and hold the drill as still has possible.

I don't have a drill press, and I need to keep the bolt on the jeep while I drill it.

use a punch to mark the point you want to drill, just be careful not to hit it too hard and bend the bolt.

u can buy a clevis pin for about .85 for the same thing instead of drilling out the bolt??? just another option

Lol nice call.. Put two nuts on the stud and torque them together then just drill threw the flat spot on the extra nut bud

i just had a brain fart ..........take two nuts and lock them together then drill thru the flat side of the nut

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy some pins with holes already in them. I have JKS discos and lost a couple pins and bought some from Lowes. Cheaper and easier

use a castle nut as a guide, center punch the bolt, then drill the hole.

OKAY! Ran into a little problem! The drill bit broke in the bolt! Right when it came out the other side it snapped and Now it is stuck... How Im I going to get it out?

If it just broke thru, punch it back out the way it came in, or if you can get pliers on It grab it and carefully spin it out
