I'm looking to buy a jeep and one of the jeeps I'm looking at has a rear detroit locker. He was telling me that around corners when I hit the gas it will engage and when he's driving on the freeway, if he let's off the gas and then accelerates again you can hear and feel it engage. I'm wondering if that sound familiar to y'all? Is this a bad idea for a daily driver? Thanks alot for the info guys. Ted.

Yeah that's normal for a detroit. Depends on where you live... If you live in the north with the snow and ice... than you might not like it. A lot of guys up north get selectables for this reason.
However, if you are used to driving in snow/ice... and you just drive with the thought in the back of your mind that you have a detroit in your *** end... you should be ok...

an actual detroit will clunk and bang when theres a lot of stress on it like if you floor it or your climbing a steep hill. it wont always lock up around corners. mine does sometimes but its nothing to worry about

what he said is normal, and will only do it if you do it on purpose. don't let that stop you from buying the jeep.
you will learn how to adjust your driving habits once you have a locker.
nothing to worry about.

I've ran Detroit lockers in many different rigs, and they are my favorite traction enhancing differential. You get use to the way it changes the handling, and after awhile you will not even notice having it back there.
Mainly though they are strong, I've never broken one.
