I just put a set of factory hooks on mine for winter while i build my bumper. Even those are sketchy IMO.

Going cheap on "ANY" safety equipment will only get you or worse yet someone else hurt or killed. That was why everyone stopped using chains and went to straps for towing and recovery. Hooks were made for using chains with and often would let chain or strap slip loose. D-Rings are stronger and much safer if weight and MPG is a problem for you consider a sub-compact car of some kind might be your best choice.

it's not really a cheap way cause either way I gotta go buy it! But yes it's cheaper then buying a bumper with de rings but I'm buying other and better stuff right now for my jeep so I'm just trying to find a way to get towed out if I need it from the front!

By that logic, recovery points made out of masking tape aren't cheap either since you have to go buy a roll of masking tape...

I love that option but man is that pricey! I don't want to add a winch but would love to had those D-rings and still keep my factory bumper.

There's a guy selling HD shackle brackets for factory bumpers in the buy sale section. Look under the accessories section

I just got these used. They're a good product. Pick up a set. I tried to find factory set for months. I got these for half the price that people were wanting for factory stuff.

I've got those on my XJ…don't really care for them much but they'd be better than nothing if I was running factory bumpers. They came in a parts bag with the Jeep and I just use the brackets to stiffen the frame up a bit for the JCR bumper. I don't keep my shackles on my XJ, they stay in the back with the strap.

Personally the JCR is plenty strong. I modified an old Stowmaster 5000 tow bar that my parents used on my mom's 92 XJ (which had a stock bumper) so I can flat tow my Cherokee. The guy who is selling the d-tab bracket would be another good option for adding a flat tow setup on a budget…
