Yeah it can actually help in some cases. When something is geared too low a larger tire will help or if something has a traction issue it'll help there to.
But in most normal cases not so much.

I'm building a Rock Jock 60(purchased another Jeepers unfinished project) to replace the built 8.25 in my 98. The rig is currently on 35's and weighs 3800 pounds. From my measurements, the RJ60 has more clearance than the 8.25, and that's including the skid on the RJ. I'm looking forward to the higher pinion, I seem to be good at hitting yokes and driveshafts on the ledges out here.
There are axles with more brute strength, but they're also heavier and I have zero interest in building a 5klb rig. This rig is all 4.0 for now, perhaps a mild stroker in the future.
I could have also stepped up to the Super 60 10" r&p and 40 spline axles, but I'm more than confident this build would work in my situation.
Once I finish getting the front together, I'll swap everything in and report back.

you've gone from wanting bullet proof to settling for a D60 rear axle. A rear 60 is fairly undesirable, especially when 14 bolts are so plentiful and so proven. Hell, D60 fronts aren't even that desirable anymore unless they are the super duty version. spend your money on the front axle and slap a shaved 14 bolt in back they are so affordable and strong. Especially don't put a rock jock 60 in the rear like you were saying, coast side high pinion rear is just asking for trouble
Rock jock 60 rear's be like
