Here's a better pic without the license plate in the way. You can see better how everything fits.

I think this is a fantastic idea. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but would it be possible to still mount a front hitch reciever in the stock location? I have one and it comes in handy.

Pics for reference:

that came out great...nice work. It's got me wondering....any chance a slightly modified stock bumper cover could be fitted in front of it?

4bangerdanger- I would just weld a receiver to the bottom of the winch plate. God knows it's strong enough! Maybe it would fit under the winch mount but idk without trying it.

dac612 - Except for the shackle mounts, it looks as tho it would fit behind the stock, or most any other, bumper. The fairlead mount is flush with the grille so hiding it would work. As I ramp up to make these, just let me know if you want the shackle mounts or not. You could also slot the bumper to slide them through.

Nice work.

Though as an FYI, Boostwerks is close to releasing their hidden winch mount with incorporated steering brace...that requires no cutting.

Unfortunately for most, cutting the front frame rails is going to be far past what their willing to to.

*edit*: it will require cutting of the front crossmember

Good work. This was one of my favorite mods. I didn't want to loose approach angle ether. I mounted my winch more forward so I could use the stock bumper as a base and cover, then reinforced it from that point.

Looks like Boostwerks reinforces the factory winch mount holes. These 4 holes line up perfect with a winch. Figured they must have been part of the factory winch option package.
I bolted the winch on just to get an idea of how far it'd stick out.
Not bad, would have been FAR easier, I just couldn't leave all that unused space below the radiator. Goes against my nature! Lol!

The BWE mount is the one I've been waiting for.
After seeing it, if it costs more than the regular steering brace, I'll pass on it.
Someone at naxja actually ordered one somehow.
I think Baddad design is actually better for tieing in the unibody.

Looking at the pics of the Boostwerk design, it appears one would have to cut out the same area as my design. I found mounting the winch to the bottom plate, vs the front, caused less packaging problems with clutch access, solenoid box, etc...

Well of course it's going to be more than the regular steering brace, it's a brace, plus winch mount

The Baddad setup is definietly nice and it does tie into the unibody better, but that's a moot point if running a bumper that ties in there, and/or frame stiffeners. The XJ I'm building I've put frame stiffeners on the front (mainly due to it having hit something by the previous owner), the Boostwerks steering brace (It looks like I'm getting #2 here soon), and a Dirtbound non-winch front bumper. It will allow me all the tie in and bracing one could want, with the winch hidden and not have the horrible approach angle pretty much all "normal" winch bumpers give.
