2016 Cherokee is completely different from an xj Cherokee. This part of the forum is for 2001 and older Cherokees.

Well, they gave you the wrong canbus. A way around it is to use a harness and pull signal from a marker light. Your parking lights are also your headlight switch.

Are you running a relay harness? This is typical of aftermarket ballasts with automatic headlights.

So what Chryslers do is to turn power off when they don't detect a load (like a filament light bulb). That is why it works until he starts the car - this system is only active when the car is running.

HID's do not have enough resistance to fool the system into thinking there is an OK old school bulb there.

So adding a harness - taking the load off the headlight circuit - will not help. A resistor may - but it will heat up an must be mounted carefully. Some have left the original bulb, but it in a heat resistant box, black painted it, and just tapped the wire for the harness signal. Seems wasteful and a little sloppy to me.

That's why I just said to try using the parking light signal and a harness, it gets around all that nonsense.
