Default HID problem

I made a set of retrofitted projectors and installed some hids, but when I turn my lights off to allow the "courtesy light" to stay on the hids stay on then once they turn off something freaks out in my dash or something, theres this strange noise coming from inside my dash. But if I turn the lights off first then the ignition (to not allow the courtesy lights to stay on) everything is fine. Any ideas?

Could be underpowered when relying on battery only? Do the new headlights have ballasts?

Run a relay for them and it will solve your problem. That way the ballasts will pull power straight from the battery. They're about $15

Well there are some "HID's" that don't have a ballast. And you said it was a retrofit type job.. So I didn't know.. And besides, as already posted, run a relay to battery.. (Clever idea, btw!)

X2 on adding a relay to the headlight circuit.

Yeah it's much safer on your stock wiring too. Instead of pulling all the power to charge the ballasts through the stock wiring, its pulled straight from the battery via a 40 amp fused relay. The stock headlight wiring then acts as the 12 volt switch for the relay.
