Default HELP! something is the matter with my Add a Leaf!

HELP! something is the matter with my Add a Leaf! It is old, it is NOT sagging and it DOES not ride rough!

Did I do something wrong? I got the Add a Leaf cause I wanted my Jeep to rode like a dump truck!

instead it rides great even with my back injury...

please help!

I had the very same problem. I didnt even have the agony of breaking bolts. I feel cheated.

did you seriously start a thread for this? You put the emphasis in the wrong place, you should have written "it does NOT ride rough". If every single AAL that was sold caused stiff ride and sagging, do you really think it would be offered? Kind of like the Rusty's trackbar, if they all broke and ruined peoples jeeps by flipping it on the road, would they still be sold? No. Some people have worse experiences with them than others, and some are luckier than others

wow you mean there are other people that did complete lifts with no prob we should start a club .the did not have a problem installing my lift club

im pretty sure he was trying to suggest that people who warn against AAL were wrong. hes probably fed up with people making fun of his cheap suspension. Probably went with a Rustys trackbar and will go with blocks when he decides on more height

there is absolutely nothing wrong with AAL's. As good as full leaf packs, no. But 10x better than adding blocks.

really depends on how long you want them to be good for. short term yes, long term, not really. If you dont ruin your springs on blocks, they will retain lift longer then an AAL

an add a leaf will not change the spring performace mutch because it is the same thickness as a stock leaf you are just adding one more.
if you would like a stiffer ride you would have to use a new leaf pack with less leafs but much thicker
BUT;the thicker you go the leafs get wider

Where are you getting this garbage? Your average AAL is thicker, shorter & more deeply arched than any stock spring. It has to be this way because 1) it is designed to be added near the bottom of a sagging pack to lift them 2) it has to support that lift. Simple logic dictates that the AAL has to be beefier due to the job it has to do. Since it is more rigid, it stands to reason that it will affect ride quality to some extent.

The Old Man Emu is the only "AAL" I know that does not fit that description since it is a full length leaf that is added to their own pack to enhance the pack. Note that it looks exactly the same as the other leafs, but it is quite long & the same thickness instead of short & fat. This is pretty much the same rule they follow in reverse at Clayton Offroad where they build a 6.5" pack, then remove 1 leaf to create a 4.5" pack. The leaf they remove could be considered an AAL for the 4.5" that creates 6.5". And that leaf is quite long, so it isn't a true AAL as we know it.

I just want to say that I love this thread. Finally debunking the AAL ignorance. Next: Stop letting people do the Wally World light mod.

Also Rubicon Express provided a full length add a leaf option while they were in business. I have it on my Jeep and it has worked for 3+ years.

I love seeing people that spent the money on full packs and 6 months down the road are already having problems with them. Makes me smile inside.

Somethings work great for some, and ****ty for others. Just the way the rock rumbles.
