help with bump steer?
So my buddy has a XJ and he just gave me a call. He having a problem with bumpsteer <---- I think that's what its called. When he driving along and hits a bump the XJ wants to swerve off the road. I told Id find out what you guys have to say about it. He has a 6.5 lift. Short arm ,sye tom woods drive shaft ,drop brackets for the control arms, its on 35s. Any info you got to help would be great. He just replaced his track bar thinking it was that and that didn't work.

+1, when I was stock height on 33's I had no bump steer. now lifted 4.5" I get it bad. I've aligned my XJ but the steering angle is pretty steep. I plan on buying a dropped pitman arm, but I'm looking and doing the WJ steering conversion, just haven't commited to either yet.
Pitman and track-bar relocation will not solve bumpsteer.
If it's not the alignment, then get this...

A steering stabilizer is no way to FIX any problem, especially bumpsteer, or death wobble.
The steering geometry needs to be checked. if nothing else, take a picture and post it here for us to see. Get the draglink from end to end and the track bar end to end in the same pic from the front

then please don't post in here anymore. a steering stabilizer is merely a bandaid that will temporarily mask the real issue - most likely the track bar and drag link are not properly aligned, but it also could be a bad wheel alignment.

disagree? lol
thanks mr know-it-all, but ct67_72 and no_rdplz are right. Bump steer is usually caused by a incorrect steering geometry, and will not be fixed by replacing a steering stabiizer

Sorry. Not a fan of all the hate'in on steering stabilizers. The OME worked for me, and chicks dig band-aids.
Win-win imo.

I had bad bump steer as well on my 4.5" lift. So bad my wife hit a bump and spun the jeep going 70 on the interstate. I have adjustable control arms and even though they were in factory specs I turn them out to get more caster. All bump steer is gone. No promises but if you've got adjustable arms it's worth a shot.
