so i was drivin home last night and was thinking how much better light coverage i could have if both the high and low beams were on at the same time. im sure i could figure out how to wire it up but i want to know if there is any reason not to do it?

That's just stupid.

Further clarification. When turning on high beams lows still stay on.

I think he means he wants to wire it up so that the low beam filament remains on when he turns the high beams on- I have also wondered about doing this as my near-field coverage is significantly lessened with the high beams, even with an upgraded harness and Silverstars. Anyways, I can think of a couple reasons why this is a bad idea. The first is that there is no way the stock wiring can handle that much load. With an upgraded harness, 120W or whatever should be handled.
The second reason I can think of is that the headlights will get too hot if you have both filaments on at the same time.

Regardless, if you really want to try it, the wiring is very simple.

Edit: Didn't refresh the page and missed your reply before I clarified with what I assumed you meant DirtRoad.

Why not just do a h4 swap with the relays and have a lot brighter headlights?

He said he did the harness and H4 upgrade already.

I do as stated in my op. But the light coverage on hi beam has very little low level light output.

Just trying to get some more info on if the bulbs can handle both at the same time.

I don't think the are designed to withstand that, but you could contact Daniel stern and see what he thinks.

You are good to go. I went and did a test with a H4 bulb with both high and low beam and its been on for a while and didn't get to hot. The plug felt fine the H4 bulb I used was a 80/100w.
Then I did a test on a stock H6054 S-Silverstar the same not to hot. So I would think just find a way to relay them up. One thing to think you might shorten the bulbs life doing this, Idk.

That's one helluva trial. If the underwriters labs held those standards?

The H4 was hooked up for over 1 hour. Just started the jeep once and awhile to keep charge up, didn't get to hot. The wires I used didn't get hot at all, just warm from use.

Quit muddying the waters with facts and real world experience, okay?
