Default HD Springs or Medium Springs with 2bb....

Well as the tittle says, I currently have a 2" BB lift from RC w/2" spacers up front and adjustable 1.50-2" shackles in the rear. Unfortunately now after about 7 months and some wheeling the rear springs are looking like sad face, w/no arch at all...... I want to get some new leafs but am torn between the medium duty and the HD leafs from Quadratec. I know w/either one I could set them on the 1.5 setting until they settle, but want to know if I'll net anything from the medium duty ones. Don't want the jeep to looked all raked in the back and have to lift the front more to compensate w/the HD's. Soo guys w/experience w/both any recommendations for once they settle which'll be the better of the two to work w/my shackles??

Also... I do tow my 3500lb boat 10-15 times a year. Just 15 miles though.

I am kind of in the same boat as you. I have a 2"BB and my springs are actually bent backwards, (and i believe causeing bad drive line vibes)so i am in the market as well.there was someone on CF earlier that bought some "stock" HD springs from 4WD hardware (if memory suits me) and said after about 1 week they were flat as well. I think the suggestions were to buy new springs with lift in them and use the stock shackles. I guess that the thought was they do not settle as much and retain the lift.I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. I think I am going that rout.hope this helps

I was in the same predicament as you a year or so ago... This is what I found. The standard and heavy duty will sit and settle about the same. The heavy duty ones will ride rougher but would be better if you tow a lot. As far as how much they settle, the spring resting on just the unloaded XJ the leaf spring will be almost flat. When I replaced my leaf springs I decided to get the standard ones since I tow less than 3k lbs and do not haul a lot in the cargo area.

Here is an example of the standard spring from Quadratec. Note the axle is sitting on jack stands.

Also note the spring is about a year old at this point. Hasn't sagged.

After looking I think I am going to go with the HD route. I was sitting a .5" below stock height before i added the shackles. Ill be going with these I think...

Hey Razor... how do you like the Ranchos? I just bought the RS5000's and going to be putting them on this weekend... the Stock ones are shot. I also bought the ones that are ment for the 3" lift. I have the 2 BB right now.

Have you thought about going with the Medium springs (and the adj. shackles) and also getting a set of helper-springs that go on & off so you can put them on for towing and then take them off the rest of the time so the ride isn't as harsh? If you only tow 15 or so days out of 365 I think I'd rather have the normal ride and a little extra boltin-on when I go to tow the boat? Just a thought since I've been thinking about leaf spring options myself a lot lately as well!

How much harder does the HD leafs ride? If thats the case ill just get the med leafs then. Your right though... if i only tow that much maybe i will get the medium leafs. The main thing is that I dont want to have a 3+ lift with these new leafs. I just put those 1.5-2" shackles on which was a total B*tch to put on. So i know that the HD's give you at lease a 1" lift. So i would just set the shackles at the 1.5 and get my 2.5" total lift which is perfect.

They ride well, Comparing them to monroe I would say the Ranchos make a big difference on the road. I believe mine are stock height.

I think you would be perfectly fine going with the standard leafs. The heavy duty leaves would be good for a tow rig or working rig with a bunch of equipment and tools in the back.

you could get the HD leafs and if it rides too rough or too high, spring for a heavy-duty rear bumper and some more skid plates/armor to bolt on the back... that would even out the ride when you're not towing... hehehe
