Has anyone swapped a rear dana60 from a Chevy???
How difficult would it be to swap a dana 60 out of a 1999 1/2 ton chevy truck into the rear of my cherokee. It was an aftermarket built for the 1/2 ton truck. Seems like it would be pretty easy, just clean axle from all brackets and mount some leaf spring brackets?

You'll need a front axle with the same width and bolt pattern. What bolt pattern does it have? I've seen the semi float versions built with 5, 6 and 8 lug patterns. Not a big fan, if you plan on using a 60 get a full float version so you get the strength of a one ton axle. The rear 60 I'm running is actually a Chevy version out of a van and had factory 4.56s and is a full float. It's also 7" wider than a stock XJ rear axle.

You'll most likely have to shorten the drive shaft, I took 2" out of mine and moved the axle back and inch too, plus depending on what yoke the axle has, you'll need a conversion joint or flange.

Unless it's really built with gears and lockers and such I wouldn't pay too much. My FF60 with 4.56s was 100 bucks. You may want to make sure it's a D60, Chevy used a semi float metric version of the 14 bolt with 6 lug outters but it doesn't have near the aftermarket support as the full float version and uses a smaller ring gear.

Before you go any further i would make sure you actually have a dana 60, im not calling you an idiot, its just that truck would either have a 8.5 10 bolt (which is junk) or a GM 14 bolt (i believe) if you have a 1500 HD

I appreciate all the help. I will make sure on the things you've mentioned. When talking about this kind of stuff I am an idiot. If it is a 6 lug I'm not sure what I would use up front?

You'd need a full width axle, most likely a D44 and use either waggy or chevy 6 lug outters. Waggy axles would be too narrow and chevy are passenger drop but ford would work if you swapped them knuckles and everything attached to them.
