I was a Fram fan until I lost my oil pressure. Changed the filter & all was good. Never again will I use Fram.
Napa sells a store brand made by Wix. Same price as a Fram.

Yeah I doubt its the oil, but Ive heard of people on the "internet" using regular oil then switching to synthetic and having large deposits break off since the synthetic cleans so well. Are Fram filters really that bad? I haven't had an issue in multiple vehicles Ive owned, and in the family.

Yeah true lol, maybe next oil change Ill swap in a Wix filter. I run conventional Pennzoil (yellow bottle) and its been great, lots of internet folk say so too. Not sure about the stuff the OP is using though.

The thing with the Frams (orange can of death) is the bad anti drain back valves. How the oil filter sits on our XJ's is a bad design. I mean, how stoned were the engineers that thought an upside down oil filter was a good idea?

You know what...a couple years back same thing happened to me. Oil change and then I had a knock, only mine sounds more like loud valve clatter. Problem is, at the same time I changed the PS pump, water bump and idler pulley bearings, as well as tightened up some loose timing chain cover bolts. Couldn't say for sure what happened... I always just chocked it up to bad coincidence lol. 5k miles later and it still runs great, with the same knock sound.

They're still trash. The position of the bypass valve allows debris caught in the filter media to get picked up and washed into the engine. Bypass valve is in operation whenever oil pressure is too high to acceptably push through the filter, eg when the oil is cold and thick, and worse with 10w and 15w.

Sideways on mine, thank you very much.

At time 2:45 I talk about that..
Here is a pic of the fram premium filter with the screen over the bypass valve I talk about in the vid
This is what I run on both my Jeeps

There is a DRASTIC difference in how my engine sounds with different filters and oils. I used to used FRAM filters until after one oil change I was getting pretty bad pings. Now I run a Mopar 090 filter and either Castrol High Mileage 10w40 or 10w30 (depending on summer/winter), or a 20w50. I also use the BG MOA oil additive or a quart of lucas oil. Every engine has been run differently, but mine sounds like s**t with a FRAM filter.
PS I've never been a Pennzoil fan. No real reason I guess, just always almost the cheapest brand at Wal*Mart and don't trust such a cheap oil.
