Default grease u-joints

my driveshafts and axle shafts have grease fittings on them. and i want to know if there is a smaller tool end that will fit on the zerk fitting, so i dont have to remove the shafts to grease them.

thanks
andy

Yes there is. Go to harbor freight. Or maybe you can just rotate the shaft to allow for more room to access the zerk.

If you,re referring to the rear ones on the front shaft, it's quite difficult to lube those in the vehicle. You also need a "needle" to do it.

ha ha...not mine... I stole it from the google........

I do need to get me a needle like that.

I've been using one that just snaps onto the female socket, but it's hard to use & always leaks.......can be very messy.

I have one of those needel adapters (they cost like $2 at the parts store)

Works pretty OK for my non greasable tie rod ends but I haven't tried it on the driveshaft. The rear u-joint I can grease if I rotate the driveshaft into a specific orientation, but I usually just pull the shaft once a year so I can do all the joints I can't normally get to.

I think I am going to get some Tom Woods "Gold" u-joints - they have the zerk in the bearing cap which makes greasing it much easier, but I haven't checked to see if the 1310 series will work on the XJ

Non-greasable u-joints fail much quicker for me because of the mag-chloride on the roads in the winter, and because I can't seem to stay away from mud during the warm months

Does make greasing much easier...but it also makes it much easier to knock off the grease zerk....especially when not in mud (rocks, woods, etc)

I don't remember what brand the ones in my D30 are but I think they came with little bolt type plugs to screw into the fitting and the needle zerk, so you can plug them after greasing them. That way you zerk doesn't get damaged or filled with dirt, but I just left the zerks in since I am mostly on the road.

If you have those, just screw in a fitting and use a normal grease gun...no need to mess with the needle.
