Grand Wagoneer Wheels on an XJ?
Hello everyone! I was thinking about putting some stock aluminum Grand Wagoneer wheels on my '96 Cherokee Sport. The problem is that they are 6-lug wheels and, obviously, XJs have 5-lug hubs. My question is, can I get away with getting some kind of a 5 to 6-lug adapter or am I going to have to swap out some more parts, get more involved, OR is it not even possible? Thanks!
I was wondering if they had compatible axles, that makes this a bit simpler. However, a site I just looked at shows Dana 30 for xj while only Dana 44 for sj, and rear it appears I can go with the Chrysler 8.25. Is this info accurate? Also, is the only difference between the C8.25s the hub?
Here's a little background on the situation with the wagoneer for those who are interested. I found one on CL about a week ago that was about 2.5 hours away from me, but the guy never responded to my emails.
Today, I went back on CL to see if there were any a bit further away from me, and I found a new post. 1 hour away, great condition, and he's willing to sell the whole thing for 500, plus he has a flatbed truck and can take to my house it in case it doesnt start, for an extra 100. I literally just got off the phone with him and pretty much bought it, couldn't pass that up :-)

The front axle is a dana 44 the rear can be a dana 44 or a amc 20.A dana 44 is good tell around 35 inch tires or 37s if its fully build up.The amc 20 if you upgrade the axles in it is about par with a dana 44.What year is the wagoneer did you find?It has to be 80 or newer or else the front axle won't work in your xj.

This is what I'm going to use when I I do the swap. http://www.tntcustoms.com/jeep_wagon...xle_truss.aspx
The front you buy a truss kit like shown its easier,The rear just get a dana 44 swap kit. Both axles will have to have all the spring perches and shock mounts cut off and weld on your truss/mounting tabs in the front,The rear you gotta weld on new spring perches and shock mounts. Then you got odds and ends like brake lines driveshafts and the steering linkage in the front.
Thanks for all the input everyone. I don't have the '83 just yet, but I did go check it out and the guy's bringing it either tonight or tomorrow. However, there has been an interesting development in the story.
When I was looking at the car, the guy, Carl, said "The owner is some old millionaire, he wouldn't give up the title for some reason". He said the owner was the inventor of the upside down spray can. Carl has a hole digging company. He has several old cjs equipped with drills, but he said he's scrapped hundreds of cars with no titles. My brother found this odd. Where was he getting these cars? Why? Anyway, we exchanged a few words, I gave him a $100 upfront for delivery, and we were on our way. When my brother and I got home, we immediately Googled 'inventor of upside down spray can'. First result was a Wikipedia article for one Thomas J. Smrt. Sure enough, this guy invented the spray cans they use to paint on roads and lived in a town we drove through to get to the Wagoneer, so it all checks out. But it gets crazier. With the money he got from his invention, Smrt opened a theme park called Shireland. It was a horse ranch, essentially, for shire horses. This breed of horses, by the way, was apparently nearly extinct at one point. Thomas Smrt pretty much revived the population through breeding, enough so that he was able to sell some to the military. Anyway, Shireland was a place for kids to go and have different thrills than what rollercoasters can provide (his philosophy, not mine). We kept looking around, we found another website, shireland.tripod.com, that had countless stories about the guy. He posted jobs offers and then had applicants answer the most random questions and it appears he never hired any of these people. He told applicants how he despised the American schooling system, among other, strange things (check out the site, interesting stories). So, I'm buying the car of a crazy person.
Well, that's about it for now, I'll post pictures of the Wagoneer when I get it :-)
