Hey Guys it been awhile.

So anyway, I have the opportunity to purchase or in this case pretty much steal a Chrysler 8.25 rear axle to swap in place of my Dana 35 on my 1998 Jeep xj.

Question is....

The 8.25 has 250,000 miles on it, the guy claims he's drained and put new diff fluid in when it needs it, and its coming off of a '97 cherokee....so is this axle still ok?

Thanks, Jake

A quarter million miles?
I'd tear it down and replace all of the bearings, races and seals before putting it under my rig.

Thats what i will do...even though i really have no idea where to find those parts or what to look for...will the axle still be structurally sound though?

Whoa there Big Fella!!

I said "I" would do it. Not knockin your skills or ablities, but if you don't know how to set up gears....farm it out to someone that does. Okay?

Yes the axle will be structuraly sound.

You can also go to your favorite parts house and buy the parts by specifying a Chrysler 8.25" from a 97 or newer XJ.

How much? Around here, you can get 29 spline 8.25 axles with 125k for $150 with a 90 day warranty, and that's already pulled. Pull-a-Part is $70
