It gets a bad rap and no it's not a great axle but for a direct bolt in and tires in the 33" range it's fine. And no a 44a is not full width. They only came in Grands, two versions, one for the ZJ and one for the WJ. WJ version is stronger but has a different bolt patten and mounts so not worth swapping. I got a buddy running one in his ZJ on 35s and beats on it pretty hard but the same can be said of most axles. Some folks are luckier than others and can make a weaker axle last. All in how you drive.

I got ya.. I don't plan on going over 33s. And I understand that the 44a is the same width as stock... But is the regular Dana 44( not the 44a) a full width? Like from ford trucks and scouts...

Regular 44s came in lots of widths. Scouts are narrower than yours as are CJ versions. Waggys can be 1/2" or 4" wider. Fords, Dodge, and Chevy are anywhere from 5-8" wider than yours. Plenty of other vehicles came with a 44 front and/or rear.
