Well it looks like youd want to talk to royalxj since he had one with the swap.

Its all going to be custom, you are not going to find any through guide or "kit"

Place motor where it clears, mock mounts with cardboard, fab, try try again.

good luck with drive line and what not...

Again theres just no point, 2500 can build you a new stroker jeep 4.6 and be done.

but its your money

^^ that started as a joke but I read it all and it covers all the motors we talked about plus putting in a jeep 4.0 in a 2.5 jeep is apparently not so plug and play...

Best solution?

Sell jeep for high price, sit on it, buy I6 jeep for cheap, mod jeep to liking.

You can always go with a ZJ if you want an 8.

Don't blame you if you don't though

I will have to change the format of my photos on my phone but I have an '86 with a gm 4.3L. The jeep came with the 2.8 but a p.o. did the swap. I have researched swapping in a different motor and what it took to do mine to see what all I could use. Everyone out there recommends getting rid of the AX5 completely (even on stock motors) that being said mine still has the AX5 and NP207.

To put a 4.3 in your jeep now without changing the drive train you can buy all of the stuff from Advance Adapters. They sell motor mounts that bolt on the frame and sell the bellhousing adapter. They stuff is not cheap though and would take almost half of your budget. You will have to make your own lower radiator hose to fit the stock rad or go the expensive route and buy the rad from Novak. There are options out there.

You would be better off searching in Pirate 4x4 or NAXJA forums for engine swaps into your Jeep. Seems like everything I read on is there. Do tons of research on your own to figure out what you need/want. Make excel sheets with cost break downs for different motors. Look into upgrading your drive train with the swap or soon after depending on how much power and torque the new motor has.

I personally bored and stroked my 2.5L to 3.0L just to be different, I regret nothi g so far. As for your engine swap, a Chevy 3.4L V6 out of a Camaro will bolt up as you have the GM 60° bellhousing. You will need a distributer from a Chevy 2.8L to use with the new engine. The radiator is the same so you'll save money there as well. As for your AX-5, it will hold up as long as it hasn't been abused and maintained. I'm running the AX-5 in my MJ with the stroker that puts 187hp to the wheels. The downside to swapping an AX-15 in a 2.5L or 2.8L is it has a higher first gear mean I g you now have to rev the engine a little more to get it moving.

2500?! Boy did y'all get screwed. You can source and build a good stroker for way less than that. Machine work included. When you buy those kits, your paying a good markup for them getting all the parts for you. You still have to pay for the machine work on top of that just to install a few things.

I'd stroke and rebuild the 2.5 and keep it simple.

Stroked 2.5 sounds like a cool idea.

Nothing wrong with the AMC 2.5L at all. It doesn't have the torque a 4.0L does but it works. The Archer Bros and Mike Lesle used modified 2.5L's over the 4.0's because of their ability to rev high and hold it unlike the 4.0L. My stroker was based and built off of a combination of their designs. Here's a clip of the 3.0L.

I don't want the 2.5l i have now because someone did a full egr delete and straight piped, and i'm moving soon to Idaho and i know the 2.5l will not meet emissions and the header right at the engine is cracked in 3 pieces and haven't been able to find another one. If it gets welded it'll just crack in a couple years. Plus the engine has been abused i drained the oil when i got it and barely any came out. Same with transmission, but with the tranny it was metallic flakes and multiple colors plus it smelled like rotten eggs. would anyone know were i could source a 3.4l v6 or a 4.3l? or a decent price on the east coast?

They're everywhere on our coast. As for smog police, good luck as they frown upon engine swaps unless the engine and trans match.

Dodge Dakotas with the 2.5L came with a AX-15. So you can get the bellhousing from one of them. XJs came with the AX-5 behind the 2.5L and 2.8L.
