Alrighty boys heres the scoop. I got a whole bunch of power tools for graduation, (a jigsaw, angle grinder, a sweet drill, and i got new dremel EZ bits).
Well i have had a pretty lightly used borla muffler for a while now... and i wanted to test out my angle grinder... so i hopped under her and started cuttin!! A bit later, i was pulling my stock tailpipe and muffler out. i left about 2-3" of pipe behind the cat (I cut real close to that bolt connector b/t the muffler and cat.)
i ran her straightpiped for like 3 days, and its loud as hell, so sweet, but i didnt really want a ticket... so i went to autozone with my muffler and started playing with the exuast tubes.... right now im runnin an adapter snug on the pipe behind the cat, with some flex pipe snug on that, and on the other end cut at an angle and shoved tight into my borla. out the back i had a 45* pipe that i thought would go out the side, but was way too short so i chopped it into a turndown, and right now im dumping it like 45* down and to the passenger side right about 2" in front of my tire.
A big problem was that the stock XJ tail pipe is 2-1/4" (Not sure ID or OD off the top of my head...) and my borla is 2-1/2" ID and there were no 2-1/2" OD adapters at autozone at all, save a 2-1/2" OD to 2-1/2" ID that does me no good at all...
I guess what im asking is.... am i better off trying to scour the internet for pipes that will fit me perfectly? I absolutely hate the ID and OD measurements it's so annoying to convert that in your head... or should i chop the rest of the tail pipe off the back of my muffler, and hang it back in the stock location, and then just use flex pipe and such as needed to put the borla in where my stock muffler was.... i can get it all welded in too if needed.
What do you guys think?? Have any of you used borla mufflers in your rig? Or how have you all figured out your exhaust problems? I can post pictures later or tomorrow.

go with ur 2.5 tube to a muffler shop and ask them to expand the end of the tube so it will fit over the other 2.5

The tailpipe should be 2 1/4 O.D. So you would need a 2 1/2 O.D. to 2 1/4 I.D. exhaust adapter. The Walker/Napa part number is 41963.
Someone at Autozone should have been able to look this up and order it in for you.
From a lot of the stories I read here and on other forums, I am amazed at the very poor service people settle for from their local auto parts stores. I guess it's a symptom of consumers shopping by price first and not "quality of service". End of rant, sorry for the hijack.

You really should not use that flex pipe stuff. IT will disintegrate in a year or two.
The adapters are really easy.
2.5"id to 2.5" od would be 2.5" inside diameter of pipe to 2.5" outside diameter of the pipe.
With a tape measure and some patience you will easily get it figured out.
Going from 2.25" to 2.5" is ok, just don't go back down from 2.5" to 2.25".
If you get it all figured out what you need to do with the pipes, just take them to any local exhaust shop, and tell them what you need, they will work your pipes for you, then you just take them back home and install them. Use good clamps and make sure you use some exhaust hangars.
