Default Gears for tire size

Put a 3 inch on my 4x4 Cherokee and was planning on going 31 with it. What gear ratio should I run and what's clear up front?

4:10 would be pretty good, what do you mean what's clear?

Imo, it would be a waste of money to regear for 31s.
just sayin. but 4.10s.

Ditto. I've always had 31s on my XJ and it's still a rice killer

I agree. I'd consider regearing once you get to 33s or above. That's when there'll be a real noticeable difference.

But if you're dead set on doing it with 31s:
4.10 ratio for auto tranny
3.73 ratio for manual tranny
Both are two sizes up from stock

I wouldn't mind going to 4.10 on 31s, would be nice to have already when going to a 4" lift on 32s or 33s

If you got money to burn, hell yeah go for it.

Just that regearing is far from cheap and most people don't want to do it more than once

I probably wouldn't regear my C8.25, id rather find an 8.8 with gears already in it. Much cheaper plus it's like three upgrades in one!

I didn't mean to put the what's clear sorry. When i put the lift on o also dropped another axle under it do it mine getting all boogered up from a tree. The problem is I pretty sure the hear ratio in the from and back are not the same now. It's a 97 4.0 with a manual. The axle I put under it was an abs setup so I'm not too sure if that effects the gearing or the older axle having different gears. All I know is when you lock it in 4 something sure as hell is right. Lots of hoping and what no

Ground clearance, the 8.8 is big you'll lose a lot of clearance and unless you're going larger than 35s it is a waste of money.
