You never know until you get the new meats on to know you will stick with 33s lol. You will not regret going to 4.56s instead of 4.10s. Also 33s on a 6.5 lift put your center of gravity too high and it will make it sketchy to drive at highway speeds.

Right, because it depends what transmission you have. So, see post number 14.

I learned the hard way. I have a AX-15 5 speed and had 33s. I went 4:56 gears and it was to deep for on road driving. Worked wonders in the woods though. But i was running out my RPM and was having over heating issues cause the coolant was moving to quick through my motor. I upgraded to 35 KM2s and have done wonders to my on road drivability and MPG for being a toaster with huge tires. I have kept the stock D30 up front and have the C8.25 in the rear. I dont wheel mine to hard just mountain roads and it has held up fine so far.

Overheating because the coolant was moving too fast through the engine? That makes no sense at all, if that were the case putting a high flow water pump on a motor would do more harm then good. The reason you were running hot then was the motor was spinning faster creating more heat due to combustion and friction and your cooling system is near failing in one form or fashion and couldn't keep up. My guess would be partially clogged radiator.

I also have the AX-15 5spd. This isn't my first 4x4 and or lifted vehicle. I just wanted to know what everyone said works well. I plan to use the D30 and the Chrysler 8.25 that came with it, however i do plan on beefing them up with better axles, lockers, and replacing all the bearings and seals. Eventually i will just get the disc brake conversion for it. Either way, this will be driven offroad but still needs to maintain driveablity on road and I can't justify dropping the kind of money i would take to do the 8.8 swap. If I break it, I'll just fix it again. lol

Don't get 4.88s if you do a lot of highway driving and plan on staying with 33s.

The just from 3.17 to 4.10 is still pretty small! 4.56 would allow for better torque (=more efficient) and room for going with a bigger tire with our the need for another regear.. My two Lincoln's.

I would agree!

I would agree as you say your worried about street manors, lift height effects that more then gearing IMO. 4.5-5.5" is great with 33's depending on flares/amount of cutting your willing to do. even less lift can still fit them.

you need to also consider your turning a lot more weight, more gearing will be better in the long run. I've never known someone who complained about to much gearing, just not enough...

they will work! someone I run with has 3.55's 33's and a 5 speed, he says its ok... but wished he had 4.56's. Re gearing is expensive. you only want to do it once. if you ever want 35's 4.10's will suck. make sure you don't go to low to need to re-due them later.
