Default GC overhead compartment and mpg/thermometer?

I was wondering if anyone has tried to put the GC overhead compartment in a 99 xj. I want a better storage spot for my garage door opener and sunglasses. Plus if I can get the mpg and thermometer to work that would be a plus.

My 2000 xj has the overhead console that (I think) you're talking about. I'm about to pull my headliner in a few weeks so when I do I'll post pics of the wiring and all. You MAY have to cut a hole in your headliner, as the console is supported by the headliner.

You are better off with one from a Dodge Caravan.
The compass and temperature will work and that's it.
As for the garage door opener,I got a Homelink module from a
chevy and mod it.Installed it on my hi beams, when I flash to pass my garage door opens.

I plan on pulling my headliner and doing it in realtree camo so when I do it I would like to have the overhead compartment so I can do it all at once. My dads GC has it but he won’t let me have it even though he took his headliner out.

Our xjs came stock with them. My 99 has one, and it is identical to the one in zjs. I don't know how you'd go about wiring it up though. I imagine there's a harness up there ready to plug but idk

Mine is a 2000 and did not come with one.The wiring went as far as the junction box on the passenger side. Got one from a Caravan and only the compass and temperature work, until I got the display(computer) from a 1998 XJ.

The zj console is different from the Xj. The biggest difference is the visors lock into the console on the Xj. As for the trip computer as mentioned only a Xj one will show all values. The other ones will show direction and temp.

As for finding one from a 97-01 Xj. They are on the rare side. They were optional in sports and classics and 60th anniversaries based on either of those trim packages. They were standard in the 98-01 limiteds. As for the one year only 97 country I believe it was standard in that as well but I'm not 100% sure. Because jeep sold significantly more sports and classics it's only the ones optioned with them had it. They are out there though.

Also the wiring harness from the fuse block to the console supposedly changed in 2000. Just like the cruise control stuff. You need to make sure you have the harness the bracket, the temp sensor and the harness to make it plug and play.

Ditto-my 99' Sport doesn't have one. I like the mod to headlight open. Love to hear you can DIY...

Why bother with the MPG gauge. Just use your laser printer, and some sticker paper. Print out a "9 MPG" and stick that on your mirror, done.

Get one of these, follow the programming instructions on the following link.
http://www.overheaddoor.com/garage-d...tructions.aspx

Solder two of the terminals together of the switch that you selected on the programming instructions. If you do not want to solder jamb the switch with the method that works for you.You want the switch to stay in the close position always.

Now connect the black wire to ground and the other to the positive on the Hi-beams.
Very easy.

I just want it all up there and to work because I think it looks nice, plus it cleans up my console area a little bit

Sorry,my previous post was for Vincenza V.

If you look at the picture I posted the caravan console is the same as the XJ and they are easy to find at the jy.
Take a look at the link I posted and you will see how difficult the wiring is for the GC console.

If you are real careful you can unhook the pins from the 97 to 99 plug and reinstall them in the same holes on the 2000. Or vice a versa. Worked for me. 99 Limited donor to a '00 Sport. Just make sure you install the sensor behind the middle of the front bumper for the temp.
