Stock Cherokee skid off a 95 took a little hammer love but fits. 7.50 at a junk yard... its 1/8" this I think? I added 1/4" thick strips front to back to help stiffen it.

So you have a 96-down? If that's the case, I don't know of any companies that will say their gas tank skids worth with a hitch. There just is not enough room for a skid AND the hitch on the 96-down. Be careful, or you might end up with a skid someone said would work and it doesn't. If it was doable, we would have made it work together.

I just grabbed the OEM XJ skid out of the yard last week for $15. Sure its thinner and not as tough as a JCR, however I'm not really planning on parking the Jeep on the skid all that often. Using the hitch however I use at least 3 times per week. If the skid interferes with utility then it is anon starter. Looking at the JCR skid it would appear as if it would be an easy adaptation extending the side plates, adding a cross bar similar to the OEM hitch and have a very solid piece. Add that with an upgraded bumper and well your rear would be protected.
Largest PITA is getting the exhaust to clear the leaf and skid even with OEM parts. Hell is JCR would throw me a bumper I could give them a decent design resolving this. Then again if they did I'd need someone to pull the bumper off of me....
