Pretty good for a lifted xj, especially if you are doing a lot of city driving. Some people claim to get more, most complain of getting less, but it is in the normal range of most. I get about 16 highway as long as I am not pulling a lot of long hills, and average around 14 with combined city and highway driving. I think new off the lot was rated for 18 highway.

level highway doing 60 mph to maybe 65 mph, I can get 18 mpg on california oxygenated fuel at best. I got 33 x 12.5 mud tires, geared a little low at 4.11. Put my foot into it to go 70 or 75 mph, or slight up grade, or good headwind and mileage drops to as low as 15 mpg on highway. Off road, crawling, it is usually around half that mpg.
100 bucks to fill the tank. our overland trips go thru 3 to 8 tanks usually per Jeep. Very pricey trips now. I hate high gasoline prices, Lets go Brandon!

2000 XJ with the California/NY emissions. I've got 245/75/17 Michelins on about 4" of lift. I get 12.3 around town. I don't drive it on highway, so no input on gas mileage there. It was never good, even before the lift and bigger tires. I would think the emissions will drop the gas mileage vs a non emissions XJ.

But like you they are short trips so....
Now out on the highway that is a different story.
I take it easy on the skinny pedal and I could get as much as just under 22 MPG.
