Any ideas how I can boost my gas mileage?
I have a 4 1/2 inch lift on 32s And It's my daily driver and it's killing me how much I go to the pump any suggestions?

Our XJ averaged 18.1mpg on a trip to Louisville at speeds varying from 60-80 (cruise doesn't work) it has 235/75's though. Sure beats the 12-14mpg i see people saying they get though. It has nothing done to it that would help the mileage and its hilly all the way there and all the way back. I'm about to build a snorkel for it using a Ford Windstar airbox and will be putting a more free flowing exhaust on it as well which should help a bit.

I just got 18.8mpg (GPS confirmed) on my way to and from Moab with my XJ loaded down with tools, cooler full of ice and food, 4 adults and a toddler, along with 2 bags with clothes and stuff , I am running 33's w/ 3.55 gears . It's all about maintaining your vehicle I am sure once I regear I'll get 20-22mpg on the hiway

the lift and tires are both increasing drag. mechanical and wind both.
my stock xj is getting 22-23 mixed city/highway driving. honestly I wouldn't be surprised to see it over 24 all highway. it spends a lot of time in the converter now. only a cpl hundred a week on the highway.
normal maintenance stuff. make sure everything is up to snuff. air filter, plugs wires etc. proper tire pressure.

On stock gears? Putting 3.90's or 4.10's under it would help a lot. Intake/exhaust are going to provide minimal gains.

Regear, cold air intake, heat wrapped headers, tire pressure, proper alignment, throttle body mod. It's an xj so it's not good on gas lol, you can try to spend money to make your mpg's better to see if it pays for it in saved gas but that depends on how long you own it. I daily drive mine with big ol 35s and 4.88s and I get about 17mpg plus a cold air intake (basically just sounds cool lol).

Depends what you use your XJ for too, MPG is very important to me as I'm building an overlander. Our trips are mostly dirt roads until the camping location where we need the offroad ability of the XJ to get to the lake/river to camp on.
My last XJ got around 22mpg on 31" tires and a roof rack with 4 PIAA lights on top plus a heavy bumper.

I'm hitting around 20 mpg on 31's, 4.10 gears almost all highway. I think the two biggest factors on gas millage are your driving habits and the upkeep on your vehicle. I have had this jeep for four months now, and first order of buisness was replacing ALL fluids with synthetic fluids. New plugs, wires, all filter. Free flowing air filter and free(er) flowing exhaust.

I'm surprised that no one has suggested new O2 sensors. Also check carefully for any vacuum leaks. Those are probably the 2 biggest culprits for poor mpg.

I get 14.5 Mpg. I dunno how accurate that is though cause my odo is wrong but I tried to correct it. I do have a vacuum leak though and don't drive too lightly.
