FWD possible in 2H with NP231?
Is it possible to rearange the internals of a NP231 to make the xj FWD in 2H?
The 2.5TD engine has too little power, but too much torque, for my taste on semi-slippery conditions in 2H.

Invest in better tires maybe?
I drove my xj all winter in worn a/t's, rwd 95% of the time..
FWD just seems silly to me.
From what I'v found from driving in snow 8 months out of the year.. throttle control is your friend.. hp and trq dont mean sht on ice.

Geez, did this turn into Pirate 4X4 when I wasn't looking?
How about asking what the OP reasoning is for asking this?
He may be under the mistaken assumption front wheel drive automatically means better fuel economy. Or something else entirely. Won't know if you smart azzes keep dumpin on him.

to answer the question, no, you cannot.
Some gear driven transfer cases allow this, but for the offroad benefits... there really is no street benefits, only downfalls. front wheel drive only in a solid axle rig sucks.

If you end up getting a Honda please put that diesel XJ up for sale here on CF...
The reason is this. Two times last year, while driving on a stretch of road with no bends, at the proper speed (no acceleration, and as fast as any other out there at the time, the xj suddenly let go and the rear end came out. I have an 2.5 hour commute to work every week, and I can't stay focused 110% while commuting.
So i bought a pair of studded duratracks, and so far so good. But on wet roads my other pair of duratracks without studs, do get slippery when its close to 0 degree C. I can handle it, but I can't lend the car to my GF without double checking the weather.
It would be nice to relax while she is driving alone.
