full size axle swap
are there any other chrysler vehicles that used the same coil up front, leaf in the rear set up that would make a full size axle swap easier?????
Like a dodge pickup or something? something that already has coil buckets and everything?

last two generations of rams have the same basic suspension. coil front and leaf rear. but they are way wider, as in the spring perches are way wider, so you need to cut, grind and weld to narrow then anyways, so mind as well start with what you actually want or whats in your budget and local

Keep you eye out for Ford HP d60's. Then you can buy a truss and mount the front under your rig. Also keep you eye out for HPd44's with weld on wedges. Those would be your full width choices ith the least amouont of work.
I suppose you could also modify the brackets and mounts on the dodge trucks, but now too many ppl do that.

here's the plan
Buy a donor truck with the same basic setup, probably a dodge. even if they don't mate exactly getting a vehicle with a similar design means that when I look at if for a while before I start I get these ideas, and there might be parts to steal. other mods maybe, brackets to steal..... arms to steal, good stuff to carry over.....Might be able to use some of the peices of steel to make some stuff.
If I just buy a plain pair of axles I will probably pay the same as I would for a wrecked, or broken down donor truck........I've found that if your patient someone's always tryin to get a few bucks more for thier old broken down truck then the scrap yard would give'm. If I could find a 4x4 1 ton that was totaled, or rolled over I bet I could pay a little bit of nothin for it.......It wouldn't even have to be a 1ton, just a full size half ton, 3/4 with the right axles.......

dodge axles are garbage for swapping udner jeeps.
no locking hubs
unit bearings
low pinion
vacuum disconnect.
late 70's ford 44 fronts (leaf sprung or welded radius arm wedges)
1980-1992 fullsize jeep front 44 (not quite fullwidth though)
ford front 60's (holy grail of axles swaps)
chevy front 60's arent bad either, just low pinion and pass drop (need pass drop t-case)
rear axles are easy enough. rear 14 bolts and ff 60's are a dime a dozen. get a front axle and build your rear to match (width and lug pattern and whatnot)

I am just about done with a full size axlw swap in my jeep. It was not that hard if you know what parts to buy befor you start. I used the D44 and 9 Inch from a 79 bronco. I found some extended radious arms that make life a lot easier. If you use stock arms you will have to make a trans mount cross member. If you would like some pics and more info. on how I did mine just let me know.
