Default fuel tank skid

just bought a new 20 gallon fuel tank for my 86 xj who makes a reasonable priced skid plate to protect it?

What about a factory plate from the junkyard?

Has the gm 2.8L The factory plate that is on it now is plastic looking for a much beefer one than that.

That isn't the skid plate. It's a plastic shield. The factory had optional metal skid plates and they're quite common. What's under your transfer case?

can the optional metal skid plate handle a pretty good hit coming down on rocks . nothing under transfer case

Yes it can.

You need some transfer case protection. Hit up the junkyards.

Thanks for the help new to the Cherokee not to wheeling sold a majorly modified Suzuki samurai a couple years ago. My son is about to turn 16 so we needed a new 4x4 toy

Excellent. My dad allowed me to buy a non-running 1952 Ford pickup at 15. Probably was a huge influence in my life......

factory skid can handle some pretty hard hits, especially if you back it up with a trailer hitch or aftermarket bumper.

The ZJ gas tank skid fits if you drill it to match the existing holes in the hitch. It will take a decent hit or two.
