Default Fuel can on liftgate?

So I've recently seen a few people with Jerry cans mounted to their lift gate and I wanna know if anyone here has tried this? They were all on the fiberglass gates and you could remove them to open the gate but Wouldn't it be too heavy for regular screws to hold it on? I heard it would break off or crack the gate. I don't know much about fiberglass but I have thought of getting the smittybilt mount and bolting on the liftgate since I don't want to get a roof rack and don't have money for a rear tire carrier

A large plate on the inside of the hatch to sandwich the fiberglass should spread the load enough to keep the bolts from pulling out. But, I wouldn't take the risk. Bouncing down a trail will put a lot of shock load on the hatch. Even if it doesn't rip off the hatch, I could see it spiderwebbing the paint.

I personally think it would get old and annoying to have to remove the can every time ya needed to lift the liftgate. (But I do suppose some have the backend loaded with subs and rarely open the liftgate.)

I wouldnt trust it on the hatch over time its gonna break something.I would top your tank off before wheeling and maybe carry a small can inside the back if your scared you'll run out.But if you don't wheel have your friend carry a can for you or get a ride to a gas station lol.

do you have a receiver hitch. Make a carrier that is the right size to carry 2 five gallons cans.

I'd that would eat into clearance and departure angles....and not be very stable.
