I don't have any swaybars and its my daily driver. I also pull a trailer for long trips.
I don't see any good reason to run them on an xj unless you have a high center of gravity by a large lift kit, or you drive like you stole it on the road.

the sway bar is there to help keep down body roll in case of an evasive maneuver. i agree its pointless if your the only one on the road but with so many unexpected things that could happen, a jerk of the wheel could send you right over.

Mines stock height with both bars because I like pitching that sucker through the twisties, and watching the tailgaters vehicles get squirrelly in the rearview. Without the bars it would be rubber side up in no time.

With my xj I literally tried to slide sideways on dry pavement. Never did I get the feeling it was going to roll.
Best thing I would suggest is to take the bars, front and rear, off and drive it around, try some low speed manuvering and see if its for you or not.
I am lazy. Dont' even want to hassel crawling back under a muddy filthy jeep and re-connecting the sway bars.
But thats me

it all depends on what you're comfortable. and how much body roll you've got.
with short arms and somewhat stiff shocks you really shouldnt need one
I have no plans to run one with my RE 4.5" lift

the body roll will scare the S*** out of you the 1st time it happens! in my opinion it is much more beneficial to either buy or make a pair of quick discos and just dissconnect before the trail. I know people that dont run swaybars and like it but i think the swaybar stabilizes your xj soo much better! especially if its lifted
