Frame stiffeners worth the investment? Any cons?
Broke 3 of my cross member bolts and am wanting to reinforce that area plus the frame itself. Was looking at tnts frame stiffeners and they seem well built. For the cross member section I plan on welding the 3 weld nuts to the actual frame stiffener ( have 3 holes cut through the frame to get the old broke bolts and weld nuts out)... Would this work and be a good way to fix the cross member area and to also make the frame better?
I forgot a few details... I am at 4.5 inches and the reason I was taking the cross member bolts out was because I was installing the t case drop spacers. I eventually will do long arms and a SYE. But for now I am just installing the t case drop spacers to get rid of vibes. So that's another reason I want to do the frame stiffeners so that I have good place to attach the long arms... I plan on getting the stiffeners and where the cut out holes are for the cross member section I was thinking of using those holes to weld nuts for the cross member bolts to thread up into... Do you guys think that will be strong enough and a good way to fix both the problems with the already weak xj body and to weld on new nuts for the cross member section?
Also for the 3 bolts that broke for the cross member, I used a 1 1/8" hole saw and drilled out the old weld nuts. Having a 1 1/8" hole this will allow me to weld new weld nuts to the chassis stiffener and let the the nuts be ressesed and allowing the chassis stiffener to sit flat and allowing me to have new cross member attachment points.
