Frame Stiffeners
Hey, guys. so my 94 cherokee, like many others, has some serious rust issues. most notably the hole in my frame. the rust goes through the bottom of the bar, a good fist sized. I've looked at other cars and really can't afford them so i've been looking at cheaper solutions(my first attempt was just to find another frame, it failed). so i was looking for some opinions on whether or not these would work http://www.tntcustoms.com/Jeepcherok...ffeners-2.aspx
it looks like it should sure up my frame enough, i would grind out all the surface rust, then clean up the hole, and finally have my friend(he welds) attach the stiffener.
so, would this work?

Really depends on how much rust you have because you can't weld to rust. If it's just a few holes and some surface rust you may be able to clean it up enough to weld those on.

How much rust is there? Any rust that is through should be cut out and replaced before covering it up, or it will just start to rust from the inside out.
Also like stated above, if there is too much, what are you going to attach them to?

If your "framerail" is rusted that bad.. consider finding another xj donor and swap what you got, or start over. DO the frame stiffeners on something that is still intact.

what i meant that my attempt to find another frame failed is that i was unable to find another donor xj without rust or in my price range. there's only one really bad hole. the rest appears to be surface rust. what would i patch the hole with?

as long as the rust hole isnt super bad you could clean it up and put a rust preventative paint on the bare metal that was cleaned up. But like others said you should post up a pic to really be able to tell wether or not it is worth the time. As far as the frame stiffners my buddy has them on his xj and he loves them. He said they are worth the money.

yes i know it's a uni-body however i tend to refer to it as a frame because most of my friends get confused by what that means. anyways here are the pics. this is the only spot thats eaten through, everything else is on the surface. there's a lot more rust on the rockers, but i'll worry about that once i have a firm "base"(by base i mean uni-body frame rail ) to work on. now let's see if i get these pics in right...
