So I recently had a 79 HPD44 put in the front of my Cherokee and I’m having an issue with the brakes. Calipers are not more than a year old, they are not seized, brakes are bled properly, did it a second time just to make sure, and my caliper isn’t releasing all the way, causing my calipers to loosen up thanks to fords stupid a$$ design with a caliper key and spring retainer. Is there a chance that the Cherokee master cylinder setup isn’t adequate enough for these big brakes on my new axles? Also did a sterling 10.5 rear. Everything seems to be fine except for the fact they’re not releasing off the rotor completely. It’s driving me effin nuts. Any ideas?

i put in a dodge durango master along with a 96 brake booster when i put my 44/9" in. but i was having issues with even getting enough pressure to stop adequately.
I'm not saying its a good idea, but I have seen people put washers between the brake booster and master cylinder to fix that issue. A better way would be to adjust or shorten the rod some, if that is your issue and not a collapsed line or something.
I believe the brake lines were replaced with the calipers but can’t say for sure. I just didn’t know with the bigger brakes if there was something I should address in the stock Cherokee brake system. I know a collapsed line would be internal but they appear like basically new. The brakes work great, but they just don’t release completely off the caliper, I’ts driving me out of my mind.

I'm not familiar with the design of that axle. Could this be your problem.

Thanks for the answers guys, I guess I’ll replace the rubber lines to the calipers and hope for the best!Originally Posted by EZEARL
