I'm not in Alaska, (NW Montana) and have no problem driving in snow/ice with full time lockers front and rear. I just let off the gas and coast around curves and when making turns. Like everyone has said, a block heater and quality warm clothes are a must! Wool is your friend!
I also never leave the house without recovery gear( Winch, straps, ****** block etc..) and extra clothing/sleeping bag.

I keep extra clothes a blanket some power bars a snow shovel and kitty litter in my truck in the winter months. All that is in case i get stuck and have to ride it out.The kitty litter is for traction and its cheap enough to buy.
