No holes just little pieces of metal sticking up from the back side of a hammer trying to break up the tar...

I'm putting 40 mils of sound deadening (goes on like a bed liner) then 40 mils of bed liner in the whole interior. No carpet or mats. I was hoping there was something I could fill the dings with before apply the coating but I guess I really screwed my self here.

No offense, I was trying to be funny

Not famililar of how thick 40mil is. Other than body seam seal as suggested (with putty knife?) Maybe with a small brush, like solder acid brush, "fill" dents with bed liner (several coats) before final coat

LOL No worries! I don't legitimately have OCD. Just kind of a perfectionist.

You think body seam seal will hold up?

Thanks!

look at the seam sealer in your pics... its holding up great

I'm more worried about the metal damage though. Everywhere you punched is going to hold moisture. I'd flatten those out and clean them as good as you can

You think even if I hit them hard with a wire brush wheel, then coated the area with epoxy primer I'd still be screwed?

I really don't want to drop the gas tank....

I wanted to thank you guys again for helping me out. This is a great forum. This has been a humbling experience lol. I've built several car's from the ground up, done body work, assumed I was past making more work for myself.

I think you'd be ok doing that.

Ok cool. I'll order some can's of 2k epoxy primer. The seam sealer will adhere properly and flex enough when ****'s thrown on top of it?

I'll trust the advice I'm given. Especially when my dumb *** got me in this mess. I just figured there was some high end body filler that was flexible, or fiberglass based filler that would work.

Thank's again for the help!

Yes seam sealer is designed to flex and last forever.

Ok cool thanks!

I actually think I'm going to drop the tank and fix it right with an anvil and hammer. I'm pretty sure my fuel check valve is shot so I can replace the pump assembly while I'm at it.

Seam sealer is going to look worse on all those dings spread out then just epoxy priming and doing your roll/spray on liner. If your real ocd, put a skim coat of filler on after you epoxy the metal. On that flat surface it's not going to crack. If it was me I'd tap the high spots down, epoxy prime, monstaliner your choice of color, then carpet or through down one of those nice quadratec cargo liners

I thought so to but that wasn't what he wanted. I have the Quadratec floor mats and the Cargo liner both in my XJ and a fraction of the cost of the WeatherTec's I have in my GC.

You mean like this $200 Martin set in my tool box?

I'm not an idiot... I just did something really ****ing dumb, and couldn't see the damage I was doing until I took that tar off with a heat gun. Thanks for the videos though. It's been a 8 years since I've done any real body work and could use a refresher.

I decided to not be lazy going for a quick fix and do this right.

I'm going to drop the gas tank and get the dent's out that I can reach with a hammer and dolly. For the rest I'm going to put some 2"x6" pices of wood down, a 100 gallon container on top of the wood, and fill the container with water. This should allow me to get the rest of the dings from underneath with a hammer and slapping spoon. With some luck I can get this to an acceptable state for some filler.
