tj rubicons have a front d44 that will swap right in, but they're low pinion and stock 4.10 gearing.

These are not true 44's.They are a Dana 30 center & 44 outers,or vis-a-versa.

It's a 44 center. And if you don't know what a rubicon 44 is, you shouldn't even comment in the thread.

exactly...

it's still better than a d30, but even a d30 has the same size u-joints as a 44.
so really, the only reason for the 30 outters is for the hub so they can utilize 5x4.5 bolt pattern to match the rear. downfall is no locking hubs.

Is it that time of the month for the both of you?

Not everyone on here are experts like ya'll.I was making a comment to TRY & inform the OP that the Rubicon 44 was not a TRUE 44.Not everyone is a smart as you two think you are.

It's just a glorified 30,as you both seem to understand.

Sorry,OP to rant but A-hole comments like these guys are posting are uncalled for.

Calm down chief. The axle tech thread has been posted already. You essentially posted "something's different, I don't know what" and they filled in the blanks. No need to be slinging insults in here.

"A real Dana 44 is full-width with locking hubs." Happy? Let's move on.

OP, the axle info thread is a good read. You need to determine tire size, lockers, and gearing before you pick an axle. D30s can be built pretty tough. Not everyone needs Rockwells.

I will end up with 3.5 to 4" on lift with 32's- 33's Max....DD with mild to moderate wheeling.....lockers in the front/rear or both? And what gearing would be recommended up front? I plan to keep the d30

Lockers are up to you... D30 will handle fine with those tires without any modifications but chromoly shafts and good U-joints are never a bad idea. "Moderate wheeling" and "DD".. lol we'll see how long those 32s last you :P

Regearing is something you want to do once. If you aim for 33s and have an automatic transmission, 4.56 is a popular choice. Numerous threads on here that can help you make that decision

Both axles need to be the same ratio. Check out some of the other threads here, there are graphs and things showing what the various combinations do.
