I have run the 44, 40 and now 10 and the 44 was the worst sounding of the three. Dual out on a xj doesn't sound good in my opinion no matter what muffler you are running. The 44 series wasn't a bad muffler it just want as deep as the 40 and the 10. I honestly would get rid of the dual out part and just run a single outlet with a larger tip. When I switched to 2.5" pipe, 40 series, and a 3" tip the sound changed drastically.

Despite what others will say, the 4.0 I6 does sound "Ricey" with most of the aftermarket mufflers out there. See it is an inline motor just like most of the ricer motors. Inline motors tend to sound simular, bigger displacment deeper sound , but very close in sound type. This is why I dumped my FM40 for a stock type muffler, ) loss inperformance, better gas mileage and I can sneek up on dead people now.

I have all Stock pipe with no cat and orginal muffler dumped right before axle and sounds really good. I am about to get the flowmaster super 40 and 2.5 pipe I would personally get rid of the duel pipe. But thats just me

I don't me to Jack the thread but I'm looking into getting a 40. Was this for the better or for the worse? Cause that's what I was goin to do...a 2.5" pipe and a 3" tip, with the 40.

That exact setup is very nice sounding=] If you go on youtube you can hear other jeeps with that same setup.

I ran the 40 series for about 3 years so I was kind of sick of the same old sound, so that is why i went to the 10 series.

I have the FM 40 series with 2.5 out the back, and love the sound... doesn't sound at all ricey to me... and trust me... I used to be huge into the Honda's and non ricey sounding exhausts on them too...
