Default Engine upgrade suggestions?

Hey, everyone. I'm brand new to this forum and very new to the jeep family since this past summer. I bought my stockids 91 xj 4.0 4x4 from a junkyard and fixed it up to relatively good working condition and I've had fun moding and playing with it. However, I'm young and ignorant, turning 18 this week, and I'm a senior in high school so my knowledge is limited but I'm learning fast. My engine runs fine but I wanted a little extra zip, and I was thinking for a long term plan, would yall suggest just a turbo charge, or stroke, or just go all out and buy a ****ing hemi and rig that up.
Thanks.

Thank you very much. Those seem simple and fun enough.

welcome aboard! THe posted article is a good one.

Upgraded injectors (703's or 784's) lots of threads on here
complete cooling system service-see my build thread
Home Made cowl snorkle- lots of builds on here
Fresh Tune-up (use Champion Coppers or NGK's)
Drop in hi flow air filter
Cat Back Exhaust- Magnaflow 2.5"
60 mm throttle body

If you are feeling ambitious:
Header back exhaust 2.5"
dremel tool port the exhaust and intake galleys

Not a whole lot can be done these 4.0's "on a budget" unless you dive into the stroker world.

I was actually thinking of installing a snorkel, will that help with performance because of the similarities of a cold air intake? Also do I need a different filter and housing if I get a snorkel?

A DIY cowl intake using good parts from turbo kits makes an excellent cold air setup and you don't have all that crap hanging off the side of your XJ.

With any of them (well any that are worth a damn) you need a new air cleaner and housing to raise it higher above the water/dust/heat intake in the stock location.

If i stroke my 4.0, will I also need a heavier transmission or differentials?

But wouldn't stroking it essentially turn it into a 4.6-5.0 with a lot of additional hp and torque? I just wouldn't want to strip anything out.

If you don't know this information already, how are you going to build a stroker motor?

He is just learning.
He will soon find out it's easy enough to break everything with the stock 190 hp. As long as it runs, you don't need anything else.

I've learned gears over engine pretty much. Want more get up and go deeper gears. Turbos and super chargers are more than stroking. Strokers are definitely not for the inexperienced and would cost more since a shop would do most of the work. Keep the 4.0 do a few little things and be happy. Spend the money on gears and other things.

Engine: good old 4.0 with some parts like a 258 crank, .060 over, a cam, and bigger valves.

me and my dad built a 4.7ish stroker with a deacent comp-cam, ofcorse the crank, boared the tb out (im a part-time machinest so i have access to a lathe with a boaring bar) headder-back 2.5" exauest, had a local street car guy we machine blower housings for do the head and valves. i just got crown vic injectors from a junkyard cleaned and installed. when we dynoed it a year ago its making 207hp and 295ft/lbs on the stock injectos. being a junior in highschool and knowing what i know, i can just sit in my garage and build **** for fun. its also got a cold air intake because the stock box was too restrictave. i have a before and after vid of the injector swap but the diffrence is in the hessatation when you go to WOT. its making a little more torque and its got 3.55 gears. im planning on going to 4.10s soon
