Default engine upgrade

hey guys im running a 95 4.0, had intentions on bolting up my 01 intake and newer injectors but it failed smog, since then i found a 99 grand cherokee that suffered a rollover. it has a 4.0 on a FRESH REBUILD, 600 miles on the engine with brand new head, and also has decent tires. he's asking $800 for the whole thing - claiming that the engine overhaul cost $2000. at this price i could buy the car, take the tires, engine, and cat. and sell it to picknpull and break even if not make a profit. i want the engine for myself but i know it has the upgraded manifold for a reason.

what is the difference between the 99 and my 95? if i use the 95 exhaust manifold and wiring harness / cpu will i have any issues? my main concern is power loss, i want the extra boost from the upgraded manifold. is the head different from my 95? and lastly, can i replace the coilless ignition with my distributor? i prefer a distributor. thanks guys

I think your way over thinking it, a new cat will probably help you through emissions and call it good

The 99 Grand engine is the first year of a clean-sheet design. The block thread bosses differ - for instance your XJ engine uses primarily 3/8 bolts on the block. The 99 Grand uses metric bolts. When you look carefully, you'll see the plane for mounting the engine differs, too. Thus your engine brackets won't bolt to the new engine. And the brackets from the Grand won't work in the XJ dog house. (We make a brackets that will work for you if you really want to do this, however we nearly always advise against doing it.) If you decide to go ahead with the engine swap, be sure to plan to bring all the accessories with it. It's not an easy swap. Many who have started end up selling the engine and getting one that's more compatible, like from any 1991-2001 XJ, 1993-1998 Grand ZJ, or 1991-1999 Wrangler. These blocks are identical. Heads differ but that can be worked around. For more info, read this PERA article.

Thank you very much, would have been very disappointed to have bought a useless engine - learn something new every day on here. Thank you again!
